On April 3, 2009 at about 4: 54 p.m., Marysville Police Officers responded to the Tri-Counties Bank near the intersection of 8th Street at E Street on a report of a bank robbery in progress. As Officers responded to the bank they observed a black colored Saab leaving the area. The suspect attempted to evade officers at speeds up to 60 MPH throughout West Marysville. Officers used legal intervention tactics in the area of 5th Street at H Street where the suspect’s vehicle spun into a parking lot. The suspect vehicle drove out of the parking lot and rammed into three Marysville patrol units as he continued to drive S/B on H Street. Officers again used legal intervention tactics at 4th Street at H Street and the suspect vehicle was disabled as it came to rest against a building in this area.
The suspect has been identified as 54 year old, Michael Anthony Koselka, of the 200 block of Mar Vista Drive, Aptos, California. Officers located evidence within the vehicle that linked Koselka to the bank robbery at Tri-Counties Bank in Marysville. In addition, it was later determined that Koselka was on the FBI’s most wanted bulletin and listed as the “Sleeve Bandit”. During this investigation Koselka admitted to (16) sixteen other bank robberies leading from Monterey to the Los Angeles County area.
Koselka was arrested for armed bank robbery, assault with a deadly weapon (vehicle), attempted murder, evading police officers without regard for public safety, and possession of a controlled substance. Koselka was transported to the Yuba County Jail where bail was set at $1,000,000.
The Marysville Police Department is working in conjunction with the FBI is this continuing investigation.
