The
FBI and Burbank police detectives are seeking the public's assistance
in order to identify the person/s responsible for an armored car robbery
and assault of a courier, that occurred on Thursday, August 21, 2008,
in the city of Burbank, announced Salvador Hernandez, Assistant Director
in Charge of the FBI in Los Angeles and Chief Tim Stehr of the Burbank
Police Department.
According to investigators,
couriers driving a Brinks Armored truck on August 21, 2008, made a scheduled
stop in the parking lot of the Lockheed Federal Credit Union at approximately
1:30p.m. Several minutes later, one of the couriers opened the side
door of the truck. At that time, an individual driving a dark colored
Honda Accord reportedly passed the armored car slowly on its east side.
Witnesses described a dark figure they said appeared on the rear passenger
side of the Honda. The figure then approached the courier's side door
when he was unloading his cart. The courier was struck several times
from behind on his back and lower head area before being thrown backward
by the assailant and landing on the ground. The assailant allegedly
took a bag containing money from inside the armored car.
The unidentified
assailant was seen running northbound in the parking lot. The courier
realized his issued handgun was taken from his holster, possibly by
the assailant.
Witnesses observed
the Honda Accord being driven north and exiting the parking lot. The
driver then turned right (or east) on Vanowen Boulevard. Witnesses described
the vehicle as a dirty, burnt brown or burgundy, two-door, Honda Accord,
with rear tinted windows. The year of the Honda was estimated between
1986 and 1993. The Accord had dealer paper plates, with pink or yellow
writing on a dark background. The Accord also had a yellow rectangular
bumper sticker on the rear right bumper. The Lockheed Credit Union is
located at 2340 North Hollywood Way in Burbank, California.
The FBI and Brinks
are offering a joint reward of $15,000 for information leading to the
conviction of the person/s responsible for the robbery and assault.
Anyone with information about the possible driver of the Honda or the
person/s responsible for the robbery and assault is urged to contact
