An award given annually by FBI Director Robert S. Mueller to
recognize individuals and organizations for their various contributions
to the community was presented to Richard L. Jones at a ceremony
held in Los Angeles, announced Salvador Hernandez, Assistant
Director in Charge of the FBI in Los Angeles.
Mr. Jones
is the President and CEO of the FBI's InfraGard Alliance in
Los Angeles. InfraGard is a partnership between the FBI and
the private sector dedicated to sharing information to prevent
hostile acts against the United States. InfraGard members include
businesses, academic institutions, state and local law enforcement
agencies, and other participants. InfraGard was started in Cleveland
in 1996 as a local effort to gain support from the information
technology industry and academia for the FBI's investigative
efforts in the cyber arena. The program quickly grew nationally
and after September 11th, the InfraGard mission was expanded
to include physical threats, as well as cyber threats to the
critical infrastructures. There are more than 700 members in
the Los Angeles InfraGard Alliance who correspond daily and
meet routinely to carry out their mission.

Jones has contributed his time, as well as his business and
organizational skills to the InfraGard mission, helping to bring
at least 250 new members from some of the most critical entities
in the Los Angeles region to the InfraGard Alliance. Mr. Jones
tirelessly ensures that the relationship between members of
InfraGard and the FBI meets its full potential in furtherance
of the FBI's mission of protecting the nation's infrastructure
and the American people, said Salvador Hernandez, Assistant
Director in Charge of the FBI in Los Angeles."

The FBI
Director's Community Leadership Award was formally created in
1990 as a way to honor individuals and organizations for their
efforts in combating crime, terrorism, drugs and violence in
America. Each of the FBI's 56 Field Offices selects an organization
or individual who has contributed greatly to crime, terrorism,
drug, and/or violence prevention and education in their community.
The Los
Angeles Field Office of the FBI has federal jurisdiction in
Southern California, covering 40,000 square miles encompassing
the seven countries of the Central District of California -
Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara,
San Bernardino and Riverside. The Central District of California
is the most populous federal district in the country with more
than 18 million residents.
Mr. Jones
is the President/CEO of Management 2000, Inc., a crisis management
and information security firm; and is an Adjunct Professor in
the Executive MBA program at Loyola Marymount University in
Los Angeles.
