FUGITIVE
WANTED FOR ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON IN RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA, ARRESTED
IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS
A California man wanted in connection with a racial attack on a man
in Riverside, California, was apprehended yesterday afternoon in Texas, announced
J. Stephen Tidwell, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI in Los Angeles.
Marc Anthony Davis, 26, was charged in U.S. District Court in California
with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution (UFAP), based on an underlying
State of California warrant charging Davis with Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
Davis was charged in Riverside County, California, in connection with an
alleged racially motivated attack, wherein Davis allegedly struck a black
male across the head with a beer bottle because the man was seated with a
white female.
Davis was initially arrested for the crime on March 18, 2006. After being
released on bail, however, he failed to appear in court and a bench warrant
was issued on May 6, 2006.
Detectives with the
Riverside Police Department developed information that Davis had fled to
Texas. Acting on this information, FBI Agents in Texas conducted further
local investigation and determined Davis’ whereabouts.
Davis was taken into custody without incident on October 23 rd by officers
with the Copperas Cove Police Department and FBI Agents in Copperas Cove,
Texas, near Killeen.
It is anticipated that the government will dismiss the federal UFAP charge
and that Davis will be extradited to California to face prosecution in the
near future.
Davis’ arrest is the result of a joint investigation by members of
the FBI’s Inland Regional Apprehension Team (IRAT). IRAT is comprised
of officers and agents with the Riverside Police Department, the Riverside
County Sheriff’s Department, the San Bernardino Police Department and
the FBI. The state charge against Davis is being investigated by the Riverside
Police Department, and will be prosecuted by the Riverside County District
Attorney’s Office.
