FBI SEEKING PUBLIC’S ASSISTANCE IN IDENTIFYING “GOOFY HAT BANDIT” WANTED IN CONNECTION WITH 24 BANK ROBBERIES IN PAST YEAR
The FBI is seeking the public’s help in identifying the “Goofy Hat Bandit,” a male bank robber who is believed to be responsible for up to as many as two dozen bank robberies in Southern California since October 2005. The Goofy Hat Bandit robbed the City National Bank on 3500 West Olive Avenue in Burbank, California, as recently as yesterday. The Burbank robbery occurred at approximately 11:00a.m, which is consistent with the Goofy Hat Bandit’s normal modus operandi, which is to rob mid-day or before noon . The Goofy Hat Bandit presents a note to the victim teller during his robberies and asks for 100s, 50s and 20s. In some cases, the Goofy Hat Bandit instructs the victim teller to go to the back of the bank. During yesterday’s Burbank robbery, the bank robber presented the note, took it back, and then orally demanded more $100s. When he exited the bank lobby doors, the bandit ran in a southern direction along the side the bank and was seen getting into a waiting vehicle driven by a getaway driver. There is no further description of the bandit’s accomplice.
The Goofy Hat Bandit is further described as follows:

Race: White or light-skinned black
Hat: Various: fisherman’s hat (described as black and tan), baseball cap or fedora-style hat
