Junk Collector Indicted on Federal Charges for Illegally Storing Toxic and Explosive Hazardous Waste in Reseda Neighborhood Backyard

A local resident has been indicted on federal charges for illegally storing toxic and explosive hazardous wastes in the back yard of his residence located on Ingomar Street in Reseda, California.

Edward Wyman, 62, is charged with storing toxic waste solvents, corroded ammunition, and lead contaminated shooting range wastes without a permit in his back yard. The collection of hazardous wastes was discovered on June 1, 2009, by local firefighters who responded to the report of a fire and explosions at the Wyman residence. The indictment also charges Wyman with knowingly placing another person in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury by his illegal storage conduct.

Wyman faces a maximum term of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted of the charge and special allegation.

An indictment contains allegations that a defendant has committed a crime. Every defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

This case is the result of an investigation by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
